The Luxury Designer’s Guide: Bathrooms

Welcome to the first installment of "The Luxury Designer's Guide," where I share insights on luxury living. Today, we're covering must-have features for a luxury bathroom, with next week's topic on shelf styling. Got suggestions? I'd love to hear them!

At LWD, we believe true luxury is more than aesthetics—it’s about functionality that enhances daily life. A space isn’t truly luxurious if it’s not practical. Think of a beautiful bathroom with an awkwardly placed door—it may look great, but it’s not convenient. That’s why luxury means blending beauty and practicality seamlessly.

Inspired by the buzz around the basement bath at our Coeur D’Alene Lake House, here are the essential features you need to elevate your bathroom experience.

Flattering Lighting

Let's begin by exploring the significance of lighting in a luxury bathroom. While natural light is ideal, it's not always readily available. Enter sconces – my favorite solution for achieving flattering lighting. By strategically placing sconces at eye level, flanking the mirror, we not only enhance the space's aesthetic appeal but also provide soft and flattering illumination, far superior to harsh overhead lighting. Take, for instance, the stunning sconces adorning the bathroom above at the Coeur D’Alene Lake House Project – they perfectly illustrate the transformative power of lighting in luxury design.

Custom Cabinets

Next, let's delve into the realm of custom craftsmanship. In luxury design, customization reigns supreme, particularly when it comes to cabinetry. Custom cabinets offer tailored solutions that maximize storage while exuding a refined elegance. From adjusting sizes to incorporating intricate details such as bespoke cutouts, customization ensures that every aspect of your bathroom aligns seamlessly with your aesthetic preferences and practical needs. It's this meticulous attention to detail that truly sets luxury bathrooms apart.

High-Quality Materials

When it comes to materials, natural stone and marble take center stage in our designs at LWD. Nothing exudes luxury quite like marble, while finishes such as brass, polished nickel, and black add a touch of sophistication. Sometimes, I like mixing these metals, as it creates a more interesting look that elevates the overall aesthetic of the space.

Vanity Drawer Outlets

A stroke of genius that ensures clutter-free countertops. These discreet yet indispensable additions provide a dedicated space for hairdryers, electric toothbrush chargers, and more, seamlessly integrating functionality into the design. It's functional design at its finest, ensuring both convenience and aesthetic appeal. Don’t skip this step when designing the bathroom of your dreams. Trust me, once you experience the convenience of vanity drawer outlets, you'll wonder how you ever lived without them.

Oversized Shower and/or Steam Shower

Moving on to one of the ultimate indulgences in luxury bathrooms – oversized showers and steam showers. Whether it's the luxury of multiple shower heads or the therapeutic benefits of a steam session, these features transcend mere functionality, offering a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation. It's these indulgent touches that truly elevate the bathroom experience to new heights of luxury.

Trim or Wallpaper

And finally, for those seeking to add a touch of personality and charm to their bathroom, consider the transformative power of wallpaper or trim. These subtle yet impactful additions inject character and leave a lasting impression on anyone who enters the space.

Conclusion

In the realm of luxury bathroom design, functionality reigns supreme. From thoughtful lighting choices to bespoke customization and indulgent features, every element is meticulously curated to enhance not just the aesthetics but the overall living experience. At LWD, our commitment to luxury extends beyond mere opulence – it's about crafting spaces that seamlessly integrate beauty with functionality, enriching your daily life in the most luxurious of ways.
