Hermosa Groves Project: Living Room + Kitchen

Hi guys! We have finally made it to the living room and kitchen of our Hermosa Groves Project. I have been dying to show you guys these rooms!! We have already revealed the entry and dining room, as well as the office. Be sure to check out those spaces.

There’s a lot to love in this transformation, but let’s start with one of the biggest game-changers: the floors. I always tell my clients that if we don’t update the flooring, the rest won’t feel quite right. We replaced the flooring with a warm medium oak hardwood, and it instantly gave these rooms new life.

Just wait until you see the before and after photos…

Now let’s talk about this fireplace. It was too narrow and awkward for the scale of the room but it was the one feature our clients insisted on keeping. So instead of removing it, we elevated it. We extended the fireplace on either side to create a grand, architectural moment. The plaster finish adds warmth and texture, and for the walls we chose Swiss Coffee by Sherwin Williams.

With ceilings this tall, we needed something to ground the space. So in true LWD fashion, we designed beautiful arched built-ins that adds both function and beauty. Guys…I think these are my favorite built-ins we’ve ever done. The contrast between the creamy plaster and the rich cabinetry is just magic.

We went with Van Buren by Benjamin Moore for the cabinetry and behind the shelves, we added a wallpaper I’d been saving for the right project. It’s perfect! To keep things feeling balanced, we opted for only 2 shelves and a larger space on top. This was the perfect spot to add the oversized sconce which breaks up the negative space and adds a sculptural touch.

Styling this space was such a joy. We had so much fun layering in accessories that feel collected and meaningful. One of my favorite pieces is the New York City artwork because it holds a special place in both my heart and our client's. We have been life long friends and we have traveled to New York twice together. I always love to weave in those personal touches.

Before and After

The Kitchen

In the kitchen, the clients chose to keep their existing appliances, so our goal was to refresh the space while working within those parameters. We replaced the old hood with a custom plastered design that feels clean, classic, and timeless. It completely transforms the space.

The countertops are Calacatta Umber honed marble, and we continued the stone up the wall for the backsplash to create a seamless, elevated look. Above the backsplash, we added a Zellige tile for a touch of texture and charm. It not only brings in beautiful dimension, but it is also easy to clean.

The cabinetry, in a warm wood tone, ties beautifully with the living room and keeps the palette cohesive. And to bring even more character into the space, we added wood beams—a design detail that completely transforms the room. It wouldn’t feel the same without them.

And now, for what makes this kitchen truly special…the drink station.

This the definition of prioritizing function just as much as beauty. Our client loves a fun drink whether it’s coffee, matcha, or a mid-day soda, so designing a dedicated drink station was a must. It’s one of those everyday luxuries that adds a little joy to her routine.

My favorite part about this space is how the paint color gives it it’s own moment. The gorgeous blue/green color is Homburg Gray by Sherwin Williams. And we can’t forget about the gorgeous brass rail on the shelves.

On the left, we included an appliance garage to keep countertop essentials tucked away, paired with generous storage below. A built-in drink fridge was non-negotiable, and we added a pebble ice maker by the sink because let’s be honest, what’s a drink station without pebble ice? It’s essential.
