French Chateau: Mudroom + Laundry Room
We’re excited to share the next chapter in our ongoing design journey for this stunning family home. If you missed it, we have already shared the exterior, entry and living areas:
Now, we’re diving into one of the most functional yet often overlooked areas of the home—the mudroom and laundry room. These spaces were designed with the unique needs of our busy clients in mind, combining function, style, and luxury for a family of seven.
In this reveal, we’ll show you how we created two spaces that work as hard as this family does—while still feeling elevated and beautiful. And stay tuned, because in the next chapter of our project reveal series, we’ll be sharing all the bathrooms of this project!
The Laundry Room
With a family of this size, laundry is a constant, and the laundry room had to be as efficient as possible. We designed the room with two washers and two dryers, stacked on a custom pedestal made by our talented cabinet maker. This pedestal doesn’t just elevate the machines for easier access—it also includes hidden storage underneath, making it the perfect spot to stow away laundry supplies or extra items. The best part? No need to bend over to open it. The touch latch is super convenient.
To make the room feel open and airy, we left the space around the window free of cabinets, allowing natural light to flood the room. We chose a sleek tile backsplash that reaches all the way to the ceiling, adding both texture and style to the space. To complete the look, sconces were added on either side of the window, giving the room a cozier feel and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Other key features include a large hanging rod above the washer and dryer for delicates or freshly cleaned clothing. And because the family has a lot to manage, we included a dedicated space for hampers, helping keep everything in its place.
In addition to being a laundry room, this space also serves as a sanctuary for the family dog. We created a custom dog area within the cabinetry, complete with a mesh metal door and latch, giving the dog a safe space when needed. But we didn’t stop there—practicality meets luxury with a built-in pot filler near the dog’s food station, allowing the family to easily fill the dog’s water bowl.
The Mudroom
For this large family, storage was top priority. With kids constantly coming and going, we knew the space had to accommodate everyone’s belongings while staying organized. The solution? An expansive mudroom with custom-built lockers lining both sides, one for each child, and extra storage for the parents. These lockers are not only spacious but also designed with hidden compartments, making it easy to keep the area neat and clutter-free.
We also integrated thoughtful details like charging stations inside each locker. With electrical outlets included, the family can conveniently charge devices right in the mudroom, minimizing the clutter of cords in other areas of the home.
The mudroom seamlessly flows into the laundry room, with one of the standout features being a set of gorgeous blue doors. These doors were carefully chosen to complement the design and add a touch of elegance. Since the laundry room doubles as a home for the family dog, we opted for Dutch doors. This allows the dog to have a safe, contained space while still feeling connected to the rest of the home.
This mudroom and laundry room design is a great example of how luxury and practicality can go hand in hand. Every detail was carefully considered to meet the specific needs of our clients—giving them a space that works for their busy family while remaining sophisticated and inviting. Whether it’s a place for the kids to store their gear or a cozy nook for the family dog, every inch of this design was thoughtfully crafted to create a seamless, elevated experience.
We hope you love this transformation as much as we do. It’s been such a pleasure creating a space that’s both functional and beautiful for this wonderful family. Stay tuned for the next chapter—bathrooms are coming soon!
