Westergard Home: Guest Bathroom Reveal
It has been a few months since I first shared our guest bathroom remodel design plan, and I'm so thrilled to say that reveal day has finally arrived! 2020 was a year like no other - so I figured why not tear apart our house for a few months while it's also acting as our offices, hang out space, the kids distance learning space and everything in between. This bathroom is a heavily used space in the #westergardhome since it sits just off the kitchen and is directly next to the guest bedroom. It acts as both a powder bath for our family year round and as a personal space for when guests are staying with us.
Initially when we began the renovation of our personal home, this bathroom wasn't part of the plan. But as we began crafting our design plan for the kitchen, it seemed like there would be extra slab left over. What do I do with extra slab? Well renovate a bathroom of course! The funny part is, we didn't end up actually having any leftover slab, but I was already fully committed so we moved forward with the bathroom renovation anyway!
In the end, it worked out even better because I ended up selecting this pretty black honed black granite instead of the material we used in the kitchen (reveal coming soon). I love the contrast the black granite provides to the space - it gives this small bathroom way more presence, and is a fun little "peek" as we walk by. To help emphasize the pretty countertop material, I had our stone fabricators cut a custom curved backsplash out of the granite for the prettiest added detail.
As for the vanity, I designed this piece bespoke to the space and had our favorite local cabinet maker build it for us. We painted it Rushing River Sherwin Williams, which is the perfect sage blue green that I feel blends warm and cool tones perfectly. I really wanted this bathroom to sparkle, so I paired polished nickel plumbing fixtures with antique brass accents for the hardware and lighting. They balance each other perfectly and keep things from feeling to matchy matchy.
But the real star of the show for me in this bathroom is that beautiful marble mosaic floor by Jeffrey Court. I mentioned in the design plan that I love the timeless feel of it, yet how it feels totally modern at the same time. This bathroom gives me all the modern english vibes and I am here for it.
