Project Reveal: Encanto Master Bedroom + Bathroom
We have been working on our Phoenix Encanto Project in phases over the last few years. It's one of my favorite projects, as it is a historical home in one of my favorite Phoenix neighborhoods. Preserving its architectural heritage while making it feel current has been such a fun challenge. You can catch up on the rest of the Phoenix Encanto Project in our portfolio here. The master bedroom suite were the final pieces to the remodel puzzle - it's a bittersweet ending to be fully completed with this project!
The master bedroom has beautiful original craftsmanship to it, like the low-profile fireplace mantle and chunky window casings. We added handsome oil rubbed sconces above the mantle that fit the style of the home, and played with a more modern articulating pair of sconces above each nightstand. The existing floors had a beautiful warmth to them, which we balanced with lots of cool blues and tonal accents. The nightstands pair that warmth with clean lines and black details that mimic the square structure of the canopy bed.
This historic bedroom is a cozy size, which meant storage needed to be carefully considered. Each nightstand has three drawers for personal items, a marble topped dresser provided ample clothing storage, and we even hid a little extra storage in the multi-functional bench at the foot of the bed. Even with all these case goods in the room, it still feels light and airy due to their carefully curated clean lines and leggy shapes.
Although this space is fairly traditional, I wasn't going to miss out on some d-r-a-m-a. That wallpaper focal wall behind. the bedroom is everything. Its watercolored approach to a traditional Ikat pattern added the right amount of edge, while still feeling soft. It set the color palette for the entire room and made the perfect transition wall into the en-suite bathroom.

The Master Bathroom
In the master bathroom, I selected materials that could feel original to the 1930's home. Classic white subway tile in a chair railing height let us go bold on the walls above. We painted the bathroom Newburg Green by Benjamin Moore and it's the perfect compliment to the blue tonal color palette of the master bedroom. To make this space feel current, we modernized it with the simple wood vanity and polished nickel hardware. We were actually able to utilize the existing tub which is the total focal point of the bathroom!
